SoftwareWhat good is an operating system without software to utilize it? Below you will find some handy Linux software programs and utilities to get things started.
Desktop EnvironmentsIf you like pretty pictures, you'll need a GUI. If you don't have a GUI, all you'll have is command line text entering (very useful, but without pretty pictures). GUI's can be helpful for those used to Microsoft Windows or another GUI based operating system, while command line based systems are generally reserved for more advanced users. If you get a GUI, you can still use command line though.
